
D. Alan Roberts is an accomplished architect and artist living and working in Arizona.
He
is one of only a very few American-born Chinese Calligraphy
artists. Alan has been studying the art of Chinese Calligraphy
(Kanji) as well as Asian culture for more than 15 years. “Asian
culture has permeated almost all aspects of my life, my architecture
and my art.”
Alan’s calligraphy style is known as Kai Shu (formal script or regular script). K aishu came into use in China at the end of the Han Dynasty. It is still used in China today after more than 1,700 years. It is the main Chinese writing style, called Kaishu, or regular script. It is also called Zhenshu.
